2023, Journal of Biomedical InformaticsAlcohol consumption as a predictor of mortality and life expectancy: Evidence from older Chinese males
2022, Journal of the Economics of AgeingCitation Excerpt :In contrast to the landmark GBD study, numerous studies have found that drinking in moderation is associated with lower mortality. Light to moderate drinkers have been found to have lower all-cause mortality than non-drinkers (for example, Di Castelnuovo et al., 2006; Jayasekara et al., 2014; Poikolainen, 1995). Similar findings emerge when specific disease categories are examined.
Alcohol and aging: From epidemiology to mechanism
2017, Translational Medicine of AgingCitation Excerpt :A recent meta-analysis linked light ethanol consumption to a dose-dependent increase in lifespan [15]. This association is understood to be J-shaped, with an immediate protection at low doses followed by an increasing risk of mortality at higher doses [10,21]. Fig. 2, from O'Keefe et al., 2014 [1], demonstrates the maximal survival benefit to be between 0.5 and 1 drink (7–14 g) daily for women and between 1 and 2 drinks (14–28 g) for men [1].
Demographics of suicide victims in Sweden in relation to their blood-alcohol concentration and the circumstances and manner of death
2010, Forensic Science InternationalCitation Excerpt :Suicide ranks as a leading cause of death in most nations in both adolescents and people in their middle age and prime of life [43–45]. Over-consumption of alcohol plays a major role in all forms of unnatural and premature death, including homicide, suicide and accident [2,3]. The acute effects of alcohol intoxication include loss of inhibitions, poor judgment and self-control, tendency to take risks and impulsive behaviour.
