2007, ToxicologyCitation Excerpt :In humans, benzidine, 2-naphthylamine, 4-chloro-2-methylaniline and 4-aminobiphenyl have been classified by the IARC as clearly carcinogenic for the bladder (Sabbioni and Richter, 1999). On the basis of recent epidemiological data (Ward et al., 1991, 1996; Sellers and Markowitz, 1992; Markowitz and Levin, 2004; Markowitz, 2005) the German MAK commission has included o-toluidine in the list of proven human carcinogens (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, 2006). Hemoglobin adducts are surrogate markers of uptake and bioactivation of aromatic amines (Skipper and Tannenbaum, 1990; Richter and Branner, 2002).
