Abstract

Phenoxy acid herbicides were introduced in Sweden at the end of the 1940s. Since then the sale has steeply increased until the middle of the 1970s. The main compound has been MCPA. In the mid 60s dichlorprop and mecoprop were introduced and the market share rose steeply but MCPA continued to be the leading phenoxy acid herbicide. To a lesser extent 2,4-D and 2,4,5-T have been sold. 2,4,5-T was forbidden in Sweden in 1977 due to high content of 2,3,7,8-TCDD, the most toxic dioxin.
