Case report
A 5-year-old boy, whose mother worked in a local weaving company in the thread-dying section with direct exposure to dyes during the last 7 years, underwent prograde right and transseptal left heart catheterization for ventricular septal defect (VSD). After the procedure, a routine abdominal plain radiograph was taken, and significant hydronephrosis of the right kidney caused by an obstructed right ureter was noted as an incidental finding. In addition, there was a duplicated collecting system
Discussion
Retrocaval ureter is a rare congenital anomaly and generally is regarded as resulting from abnormal development of the inferior vena cava (IVC) rather than the ureter and having a prevalence of 0.1%.4 During fetal development, the more ventral subcardinal vein does not regress and instead develops into the infrarenal segment of the vena cava. In this stituation, the more dorsally located ureter passes behind and around the vena cava as the developing metanephros ascends to its lumbar location
