Derivation of an occupational exposure limit for benzene using epidemiological study quality assessment tools
2020, Toxicology LettersCitation Excerpt :They cited four “reliable” studies with appropriate exposure assessment and control for confounding. These were Carere et al., 1995 (1995) (which was cited as a “borderline positive increase”) at 0.46 ppm; Pitarque et al., 1996 (1996) at 0.28 ppm, Lovreglio et al., 2014 (2014) at 0.1 ppm and Carere et al., 1998 (1998) at 0.1 ppm. RAC took the lowest concentration for these four studies to select a NOAEC of 0.1 ppm.
BTEX exposure assessment and quantitative risk assessment among petroleum product distributors
2017, Ecotoxicology and Environmental SafetyCitation Excerpt :The occupational exposure limit time weighted average (OEL-12-h TWA) recommended by the Iranian Committee for Review and Collection of Occupational Exposure Limit is identical to the 8-h time weighted exposure level recommended by the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists, 1600 μg/m3 for benzene in the workplace. Generally, benzene exhibited elevated personal exposure concentration compared to other BTEX constituents in the personal exposure samples (Table 2); similar results have been previously reported (Caro and Gallego, 2009; Cruz-Nunez et al., 2003; Keretetse et al., 2008; Pitarque et al., 1996; Vainiotalo et al., 2006). These finding are likely attributable to emissions from fuel pumps and through evaporative loss from fuel filling trucks.
Application of the lymphocyte Cytokinesis-Block Micronucleus Assay to populations exposed to petroleum and its derivatives: Results from a systematic review and meta-analysis
2016, Mutation Research - Reviews in Mutation ResearchCitation Excerpt :Overall, 13 studies (accounting for sixteen datasets) reported a significant increase in MN frequency [13,20,23,26,29,30,32,33,35–38,41] in exposed workers compare to controls. Conversely, four studies reported a significant decrease [22,24,25,39], while no effect was found in the others [18,19,21,27,28,31,34,39,40,42]. With regard to the studies analyzing additional biomarkers of DNA damage, the correlation within results, calculated with Spearman rank test was quite good (Fig. 4).
