    Citation Excerpt :

Earlier observational studies reported an association between exposure to second-hand tobacco smoke and the risk of COPD.19–21 A case-control study conducted by Kalandidi and colleagues19 reported that women married to smokers and exposed to 1 pack per day or less were at a 2.5-times greater risk of having COPD than those married to nonsmokers. Sandler and colleagues20 followed 14,783 healthy subjects exposed to second-hand smoke for 12 years and reported that the estimated relative risk of death from COPD was 5.65.
