In recognition of 2014 marking 70 years since the British Journal of Occupational Medicine (the original name for Occupational Environmental Medicine (OEM)) was established in 1944, we have decided to commission a series of guest ‘Hot topic’ Editorials to highlight current and emerging issues in occupational and environmental health. These Editorials will demonstrate how far topics in these fields have moved on from those which were prominent in the early days of the journal.
