Agreement between hearing thresholds measured in non-soundproof work environments and a soundproof booth

Table 4

Difference in proportions of hearing loss* between screening test† (using three different sets of criteria) and diagnostic test results, by frequency

Diagnostic test Screening test (criterion 1) Screening test (criterion 2) Screening test (criterion 3)
Frequency % % Difference‡ Kappa % Difference‡ Kappa % Difference‡ Kappa
*Hearing loss was defined according to the criteria described in “Subjects and methods” section—that is, for the diagnostic test, the sum of low frequencies (0.5, 1, and 2 KHz), ⩾90 dB; the sum of high frequencies (3, 4, and 6 KHz), ⩾90 dB; and for the individual frequencies (3, 4, 6, and 8 KHz), ⩾30 dB.
†Criterion 1: same criteria as in diagnostic test. Criterion 2: sum of three low frequencies ⩾105 dB; sum of three high frequencies ⩾105 dB; individual frequencies (3, 4, 6, and 8 KHz) ⩾35 dB. Criterion 3: sum of three low frequencies ⩾120 dB; sum of three high frequencies ⩾120 dB; individual frequencies (3, 4, 6, and 8 KHz) ⩾40 dB.
‡Difference = % in screening test − % in diagnostic test.
